Mapply is an application that allows users to upload and access street noise data based on Google Maps.
It gives instant access to important information on a street's volume as uploaded by other users with the iPad 2's built in microphone and geo-location feature.
Users can compare a street's noise with area or national average to give context to the results. Data can be superimposed over Google Maps to provide an enhanced, multi-sensory experience.
I came up with the idea for Mapply as my friends and I are all re-locating to new cities and want to make sure we pick the right area to live in — something that can be hard when you don't know the surroundings. Everything else seemed to have been mapped: locations, activities and even crime — I wanted to add street noise to that.
